Malachi – Questions and Answers
The minor prophet Malachi, sometimes called the seal of prophecy, ends the Old Testament. God ordered prophecy should cease until the time of John the Baptist. The prophet is sent by God to reprove the Jewish people of the neglect of God’s Temple. Also he points to the coming Messiah.
Are they talking about dragons in Malachi 1:3? Yes, I don’t know for sure what kind of animal they are referring to when they say “dragons”. The Bible does refer to fire breathing beasts from which we get the stories of dragons. These are some sort of extinct animals.
What places were they talking about in Malachi 1:4? The “desolate places” were wasted and ruined cites.
What is polluted bread in Malachi 1:7? These were offerings that were not the best, worthy of sacrifice to God, rather the worst, like offering garbage to the LORD.
In Malachi 2:14 & 15 are they talking about having more than one wife? This is talking about divorcing your current wife.
What prophecy is in Malachi 3:1? Are they talking about Jesus? No, the messenger was John the Baptist who came announcing his cousin Jesus. Luke 7:24-27 “And when the messengers of John were departed, he [Jesus] began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts. But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.”
What are they talking about it is vain to serve God in Malachi 3:14? The false prophets said that there was no value in serving the God. This was a lie.
Are they talking about the lake of fire in Malachi 4:1? No, this is referring to God’s judgments against the wicked. However it could be an application since hell and the lake of fire are God’s judgments.
What prophecy are they talking about in Malachi 4:5? “Elijah the prophet” is a reference to John the Baptist who announced Jesus coming and His work. Matthew 11:12-14 “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.”
