Jeremiah 28-50 ends this book of prophecy. In these chapters, the inhabitants of Jerusalem are taken as captives into Babylon.

What does “prophesieth” mean in Jeremiah 28:9? This is the progressive tense of prophecy. This is the action of presenting a prophecy as the prophet is speaking.

They got the yoke off Jeremiah in Jeremiah 28. Yes, but Hananiah was a false prophet and what he said did not come to pass. He just wanted to say some good sounding news. Jer 28:15-17 “Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie. The people in Jeremiah 28 still did not come back to God. No they did not.

The people that were left in the cities, they are to meet with the sword, the famine and pestilence and are driven out of the land. So the ones that went to Babylon come home. But they are still in Babylon in Jeremiah 29. Although those that were driven out of the land did not mean that they were able to go home. Some died. The entire Babylonian captivity lasted a total of seventy years.

What does “travail” mean in Jeremiah 30:6? The word “travail” means a painful or laborious effort.

What is the “O Virgin” in Jeremiah 31:4? Is it about Jesus? No, this is a reference to the nation of Israel.

Are they saying that a woman is a man’s downfall in Jeremiah 31:22? “A woman shall compass a man” This means that a woman will protect a man. Israel figuratively speaking, will miraculously bring forth the Messiah.

What prophecy is in Jeremiah 31:31? The new covenant is a reference to the age of grace, the New Testament, the Church age.

What does it mean in Jeremiah 31:32, “I will put my law in their inward parts?” God will put His law in men; this is a reference to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

What prophecy is in Jeremiah 32:8? The return of the Jews to their native land after the captivity. The land that Jeremiah bought was at that time taken by the enemy but by buying it he was saying that the Jews would return and get back their land at a future time.

In Jeremiah 32 they are still in Babylon and other places. No, they were not quite yet taken captive but they were going to be very soon.

What prophecy is in Jeremiah 33:15? “Branch of righteousness” – the Messiah. “He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land” – a reference to the millennial reign of Christ.

They are still in captivity in Jeremiah 34. They were just in the process of being taken captive in that chapter.

What does “hearken to me” mean? It means, “Listen carefully to what I have to say.”

What does “supplication” mean? Supplication – the action of humbling asking or begging for something humbly and earnestly.

I thought that the king of Babylon already took over Jerusalem. He was coming but in Jeremiah 39:1 then he took came.

The king of Babylon was very Yes he was wicked and very cruel to his prisoners.

What does “smote” mean in Jeremiah 41:2? Smote – to hit with the intent of killing.

Ishmael was a very bad person. Ishmael the son of Nethaniah was a Jew who murdered the appointed governor of Judah – Gedaliah. This action may have been a key factor in the flight of the people into Egypt which Jeremiah warned against.

God was very angry that some of Him people wanted to go to Egypt. Yes, they were not supposed to return to Egypt. Spiritually, Egypt is a type of the world. He did not want them to go there.

Why did God have Jeremiah hide the stones? This was for a sign that t Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon would one day come and set his throne in that very same place signifying that he was king there.

In Chapter 44 there were no one living in Jerusalem and the cities of Judah. If there were any people the number was so small that it was as good as none.

Who gave wings to Moab so that he may flee in Jeremiah 48:9? Nobody, another way of saying this is something like, “Unless Moab gets wings and flies, it does not have a chance to escape God’s wrath.”

What does “grapegatherers” mean in Jeremiah 49:9? People that harvest grapes.

In Jeremiah 50 there is a nation what will take over Babylon. Yes, this is referring to the Medes and the Persians under Cyrus and later under Darius. This occurred during the time of Daniel.
