Exodus 34-40 Questions and Answers

 The Tabernacle

Exodus 34-40 describes the construction of the tabernacle. The tabernacle was a tent structure that was used for worship while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years.

Questions and answers on Exodus 34-40Where is Mount Sinai? According to Galatians 4:25: “For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia”. There is a Mount Sinai in the Sinai Peninsula but this is not the same mountain of Bible times.

In Exodus 35 How long did they stay by Mount Sinai? According to Bible scholars they camped there for 11 months and 5 days.

How many tabernacles did they build? There was only one tabernacle.

In Exodus 36 the tabernacle had to be expensive. The tabernacle was the most expensive structure for its size that was ever made.

In Exodus 37 was this chapter about how the tabernacle was made? Specifically this chapter is about what Bezaleel made that was in the tabernacle proper. This chapter mentions the Ark of the Covenant with the mercy seat and the cherubims; the table of shewbread, the serving vessels, the golden candlestick, the incense altar and the special oil and incense that was used.

In Exodus 38 where did they get all of the money for the tabernacle if they were poor? The raw materials for the tabernacle came from Egypt. Before they left Egypt, God told Moses to tell the children of Israel to ask of their neighbors, such things as clothing, jewels, gold and silver. Exodus 11:2 “Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold.” These materials were used in the construction of the tabernacle.

In Exodus 39 are all of the stones still there today? I don’t know what happened to the breastplate or any of the other parts or furnishings of the tabernacle.

Exodus 39:24 mentions pomegranates. I thought pomegranates were a fruit. Pomegranates are a fruit. These were embroidered pictures of pomegranates.

In Exodus 40, how did they move the tabernacle since they were traveling because they wandered for 40 years in the wilderness? There were certain men whose duty it was to take down the tabernacle, pack up the furnishings and carry the parts of the tabernacle using long staves (heavy sticks) so that they would not touch it directly. They tore it down and packed it up and then unpacked it and set it up when they got to their new destination.
