New Testament Bible Verses About A Good Wife KJV
In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul has some things to say about wives:
1 Corinthians 7:2
Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. (KJV)
The purpose of marriage is to fulfill the natural sex drive. Sex is honorable and right when it is contained in the institution of marriage.
1 Corinthians 7:3&4
Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. (KJV)
In the Old Testament the concept of “one flesh” was introduced, this verse repeats the idea. Husbands and wives are to take care of each other in every way including meeting and fulfilling the sexual needs of each other.
1 Corinthians 7:10&11
And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife. (KJV)
Paul gave some marital counsel and instructions concerning husband and wife relationships. When the marriage plan does not work the way God designed it, sometimes there needs to be a separation between a husband and a wife.
When a wife feels the need to leave her husband, especially for safety’s sake, she can and should do so. But if she does leave, it is not for another man, but to give space in the relationship to work things out with her husband or if that cannot be done, to remain unmarried.
Ephesians 5:22&23
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. (KJV)
In any relationship, there must be a leader. In marriage, the husband is the leader. He represents Jesus Christ.
As the wife submits to her husband, she is actually obeying God. Just because the husband is the head of the home, the woman is not a lesser entity, she just has a different position in the marriage.
The wife is the recipient of her husband’s love just as Jesus Christ loves His church.
Hebrews 13:4
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
God created sex to be an enjoyable source of release, intimacy, love and relaxation, but only within the bounds of marriage between a wife and her husband.
1 Peter 3:1
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; (KJV)
The apostle Peter gives the reason for wives to be submissive to their husbands. This is especially important for a woman who does not have a Christian husband.
The word “conversation” here is a reference to the attitude and spirit of the God-fearing wife. God can and does use the submission of the woman as a testimony for Him.
1 Peter 3:4
But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. (KJV)
Peter knew how much women like to be pretty and to make themselves attractive. But he shifts the focus to the meek and subjective spirit of the wife, rather than of her outward appearance.
The spirit and attitude of a woman which is far more valuable to both God and her husband than how she beautifies herself.
1 Peter 3:7
Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. (KJV)
Switching to husbands, Peter instructs the men to understand their wives, and to give them honor. He describes the woman as a weaker vessel.
This description is not demeaning, it is objective. And Peter warns that if a husband does not treat his wife properly, it is a sin that hinders the prayers of the husband.
Revelation 19:7
Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. (KJV)
The marriage relationship is so special, so loving, so different than any other relationship that Christ Himself uses this example to describe the relationship that He has with His people. He loves them and they love Him.
