Questions and Answers on 1 Kings 8-16In 1 Kings 8:2 it mentions the seventh month. Was this July? The Jewish calendar used by the Jews in Old Testament times had twelve months. The first day of the New Year was near the first day of our spring – sometimes in March. So the seventh month that is referred to in this verse is not July.

In 1 Kings 8:14 why did the congregation stand? The congregation of Israel stood up to respect the reading of God’s Word. The congregation of Israel included all of the people of Israel who was gathered at that time to hear the Word of God.

In 1 Kings 6 Solomon wanted to build a temple for God. I know there were more then just that one. How many temples did God have?

There are four temples that are mentioned in the Bible:

1. Solomon’s temple – Solomon built the first temple. It took Solomon seven years to build and he completed int in 964 B.C.This temple was destroyed in  586 BC by the Babylonians when they took the Israelites captive.

2. Zerubbalel’s Temple – Zerubbabel rebuilt the temple after the Jews returned to Jerusalem  after being in Babylon for 70 years.. This is recorded in Ezra 3:2 and 8 and Ezra 6:16.

3.Herod the Great’s Temple – This was the Herod of the Christmas story. Herod rebuilt the Jews temple as a favor to the Jews.It took Herod 46 years to build this temple (John 2:20) and it was destroyed in 70 AD.  This was the temple that was in use during the time of Jesus’ earthly ministry.  The Wailing Wall (also called the Western Wall ) is all that is left of that temple. What is called the Wailing Wall was a retaining wall that originally was built to contain the temple area.

4.Future (fourth) Temple –  The temple will be rebuild again in Jerusalem. The Antichrist will site there and proclaim that he is god. Plans and preparations are being made now for the fourth temple. At the end of the tribulation, Christ will come and take His place in Jerusalem and be in the Temple again. I believe that Christ will build His own new temple. He will not reign in the same building that the Antichrist used.

Solomon had more wives then David did. Yes, Solomon according to 1 Kings 11:3 Solomon had 300 wives and 700  concubines.

What does “howbeit” mean in 1 Kings 11:13? “Howbeit” is an ancient word that means “nevertheless” or “however”.

Rehoboam was a bad king. Yes, He was King David’s grandson, and Solomon’s son. and he was not a good king.

Why was the man of God killed by a lion in 1 Kings 13? The man of God was told not to eat or drink by God while he was on his mission. But the lying prophet  told hims that an angel appeared to him and told him to both eat and drink with him. The man of God listened to the lying prophet instead of God and he was killed by a lion.

Is the city of David in Israel today? The city of David is another name for Jerusalem. Yes, Jerusalem in Israel today.
